Photographs and information kindly submitted by Peter Mudie on behalf of his wife who is Cyril's niece. We are waiting for further information on this loss and it's crew from our researchers but decided to start this page of honour for Peter.
Reason For Loss:
No further details are available at time of publication but the aircraft is known to have come down in the sea and as these are the only two crew members from 162 Squadron in El Alemein cemetery then either the remainder of the crew were lost at sea or that they are buried as unknown. The Air Force panels commemorate more than 3,000 airman of the commonwealth as missing. A further 815 are buried as unknown.
No 162 Squadron was formed at Kabrit, Egypt, on 4th January 1942, and was primarily employed on radio jamming and bomber support in the Middle East and Levant using - in the main - Wellington aircraft, before being disbanded on 25th September 1944.
