REASON FOR LOSS:

Whilst engaged on a day mission to intercept incoming B-17 Flying Fortress's of the 8th U.S.A.A.F en-route to Berlin,
Hauptmann & Gruppenkommandeur Albert Schulz's Ju 88 was hit by return fire from the B-17's flying in tight box formation. The shells ripped into the cockpit and the aircraft went into a steep dive which it never pulled out of. It is believed that Albert Schulz and Heinz Krüger were killed in the cockpit and control was lost. Georg Freiben managed to bale out of the striken machine which crashed near Dorf an der Weser, which is approximately 30 km from the home of Suzi Schulz, Albert's wife. The force of the impact and following explosion was heard by his wife at their home in Hameln.
