Extract from A.D.I. (k) Report No.97/1944.
Whilst approaching the target at a height of about 12,000 feet, this aircraft was attacked by a night fighter. The underside of the fuselage caught fire and the aircraft crashed in flames, the Observer, Radio Operator and Flt Engineer baled out.
This crew's previous operation was when they took part in an attack on London on or about the 18th February when, however, they turned back before reaching the target. They had been in France for about two weeks before which they had been in training at Lechfeld.
