REASON FOR LOSS:

Shot down in combat during night operation. All three crew members were killed. Rudolf Sigmund was the Kommandeur of III/NJG3, he has 29 confirmed victories, two of them were a B-24 on the 26.03.1943 and a B-17 on the 17.04.1943, both shot down during the day. Sigmund had flown 150 operations. He was awarded the Ritterkreuz (Knights Cross) on the 02.08.1943 and the Ehrenpokal on the 29.03.1943.
