Pilot: Feldwebel. Willi Quante. 69004/221 Killed.
Born 14.11.1921 in Rauxel.

Reason for loss:

This pilot, together with Leutnant Ernst Sensbach were flying on a course 30 miles SSE, off Selsey at zero feet when intercepted by two Typhoon IB's of No. 486 (N.Z) Squadron. P/O Frank "Spud" Murphy flying as yellow 2 and F/O A. H. Smith in Yellow 1. Both Messerschmitts were lost to the guns of these two pilot's, crashing into the sea with no survivors.

Burial details:

Willi's body was washed ashore near Wissekerke /Insel Nord Beveland, Netherlands. Originally buried at Friedhof Vlissingen, Grave Nr. 246. Later transferred to the Deutschen Soldatenfriedhof Ijsselsteijn. Grave Nr. 177.
