OPERATIONS RECORD BOOK No. 310 Squadron Exeter.
Exeter 28.08.42

Flying for the day started with a convoy patrol by Red section at 08.15, and a scramble by Yellow section at 09.10 hours, neither being interesting, but at 09.40 White section, of which Wing Commander Flying (W/C. Mrazek) was No.1 and S/L. Dolezal No.2, took off on a scramble which only lasted 15 minutes but destroyed one Me 109E. This section had orders from operations to climb to 20,000 feet over Portland Bill to intercept a raider, but when at 3,000 feet soon after taking off operations advised that bandit was now at 5,000 feet over Bridport, and then that the bandit was down to 2,000 feet flying west. White section then at about 4,000 feet diving to 3,000 feet saw e/a ahead and below and No.1 dived firing a short burst from head on.
E/A markings were plainly seen and the "Tally-HO" was given at about 09.45 hours. White section turned on tail of e/a and gave chase, but not being able to catch up and knowing that the e/a would have to return to France white section turned to port to cut him off. The e/a turning seaward near Exmouth, our No.2 engaged closing in from about 30 degrees behind and slightly below giving M.G. and Cannon from 200 to 100 yards, followed by No.1 flying astern and somewhat higher, also fired at e/a. Strikes and black smoke were seen coming from e/a's radiator, and the e/a after porpoising somewhat and after receiving further bursts from both our pilots, the tail of the e/a broke off and the e/a crashed into the sea in a spin from about 300 feet, some 6 to 8 miles south of Exmouth. E/a did not return fire at any time. W/C. K. Mrazek and S/L. F. Dolezal claim half each of one Me 109 destroyed.
