REASON FOR LOSS:
This aircraft was engaged by Spitfires, believed No. 19 Squadron, during escort sortie for KG76 attack on London and suffered damage to radiator causing engine fire. Possibly that claimed by Sergeant D. G. S. R. Cox. Force-landed near Lodge Wood, Homestead, Isfield, Sussex.

Me 109 crashed at Isfield, near Lewes on 15/9/40. Markings + 5. All yellow nose, spinner red and white. Old markings rubbed out BZ + NG.
Aircraft contructed by Arado F.W. Werke nr. 6147 in 1938. Fitted with DB601A engine constructed by Daimler Benz, Berlin Marienfeld No.10625. Aircraft crashed following fighter action, the water cooler having been hit which caused engine to overheat. Aircraft reported to be in good condition. Standard armament of 4 MG17 machine guns and fitted with a bomb rack for 1 x 250 kg bomb. Instruments standard. Pilot taken prisoner.
