REASON FOR LOSS:

During fighter action this machine dived onto a formation of Spitfires and failed to pull out of the dive for reasons unknown.
Crashed at 15.30 hours at Melon Farm, Ivychurch, Kent. Map reference R.4747. The airframe was manufactured by Arado FW in 1940 number 1528. Following fighter action aircraft dived into the ground at high speed and was almost entirely buried in mud and water. The pilot is dead under wreckage in crater. No details regarding armament, etc is possible.

BURIAL DETAIL:

This aircraft was recovered 1974 and the mortal remains of Richard Riedel were discovered and identified.
He was subsequently laid to rest at the German Military Cemetery, Cannock Chase, Staffordshire during 1975. Block. 8 Grave. 163.
