REASON FOR LOSS:
This aircraft was severly damaged in combat and abandoned over Eastbourne. Possibly that claimed by F/O. H. N. E. Salmon of No.1 Squadron. Oblt Hollekamp baled out too low and his body crashed onto the roof of (Hillbrow), Gaudick Road and was killed. Fw Schurk also baled out but he landed in the sea and was drowned. The body of Richard Schurk was later washed ashore at Eastbourne on September 4th.
Ernst Hollekamp was promoted to the rank of Hauptmann subsequent to his death and this rank now appears in the records of the, Soldatenfriedhof Cannock Chase.
